Tyrone

Family Formation Alum

After years of working night shifts, Tyrone, a 34-year-old father of four, signed up for FFSC’s six-week Family Formation, hoping to find a new career path with better hours. “I have full custody of my kids and working nights keeps me out of sync with their lives,” Tyrone explained. “They need me, especially after school hours.”

With the help of FFSC’s Employment & Mentoring team, Tyrone enrolled in Sherwin-Williams’ Painter Certification program, learning a new trade and graduating as a certified residential/commercial painter.

“Tyrone was determined and persistent from day one,” said FFSC Facilitator Tony Jeffery. “He’d show up for class every day after working night shifts, and I knew he was tired, but he never gave up during the six weeks!”

“The parenting classes helped me re-learn what I thought I knew about being a dad.”

Not only did Tyrone find a full-time day job as a painter, he also became a more confident parent: “The parenting classes helped me re-learn what I thought I knew about being a dad,” said Tyrone. “I never had a dad in my life to show me by example.”
