A New Direction: Anthony’s Story

Youth Leadership & Development Program (YLDP) Alum

Anthony S. was referred to Fathers & Families Support Center’s (FFSC) Youth Leadership and Development Program as a young man in need of structure, guidance, and positive direction. At the time of his referral, Anthony was frequently getting into trouble and making choices that created challenges at home, particularly for his mother, who was seeking additional support to help redirect his behavior.

Like many youth facing similar circumstances, Anthony’s struggles were rooted in a lack of consistent guidance, mentorship, and positive influences. Without those supports in place, he found himself making poor decisions that negatively impacted both his future and his family relationships.

Through engagement with FFSC, Anthony was introduced to mentoring, accountability, and life-skills support designed to help him recognize his potential and make better choices. He began participating in positive programming, receiving encouragement, and learning the importance of discipline, responsibility, and setting goals for himself.

Over time, Anthony demonstrated meaningful growth. He began changing his attitude, making better decisions, and focusing more seriously on his education. His commitment to school improved, and he started taking pride in doing better academically and personally.

Today, Anthony is on a more positive path and continues working toward a brighter future. He is currently preparing to relocate to Houston to live with his father, where there are expanded opportunities for athletics and personal development. This next chapter represents a fresh start and the chance to continue building on the progress he has made.

Anthony’s story is a reminder that with guidance, patience, and the right support system, young people can overcome challenges, change direction, and reach their full potential.
