How FFSC & Dr. Pepper Helped Dad Find His Route

Employment Development & Mentoring Alum

The road to success is rarely a straight line, but for Anthony D. of Class 169, it recently led to a promising new horizon. This year, Anthony officially began his new career delivering products for Dr. Pepper—a milestone that represents far more than just a new paycheck.

Before joining FFSC’s evening program, Anthony was at a crossroads. He was determined to find a better job, not just for day-to-day bills, but because he had a specific goal in mind: he wanted to start saving for his children’s college education.

However, he kept hitting a wall. Many of the higher-paying opportunities he found came with a catch—the grueling hours would have made him a stranger to his children. He refused to sacrifice his presence for a paycheck; it was deeply important to him to be home after work each day to help his kids with their homework.

Finding the Perfect Fit

Anthony didn’t have to navigate this search alone. Fathers & Families Support Center worked alongside him to look for the perfect job—one that didn’t force him to choose between being a provider and being an active, present father.

While our employment lessons sharpened his technical skills, it was the comprehensive support of the FFSC family that truly cleared the path.

Here is how FFSC helped Anthony land his role at Dr. Pepper:

  • Targeted Job Search: Our Employment Development & Mentoring Program team helped him identify roles that offered the “triple threat” he needed: flexible hours for homework time, full benefits, and competitive pay.
  • Interview Preparation: Through mock interviews and coaching, Anthony learned how to effectively communicate his value and professional journey.
  • Self-Confidence Building: The program empowered him to walk into the Dr. Pepper interview with the poise and certainty of a leader.
  • Stability & Purpose: The nightly lessons provided a consistent foundation, allowing him to stay focused on his long-term goal of saving for his kids’ college.

“The lessons helped me feel prepared and confident,” Mr. Davis shared. “I was able to walk into interviews and effectively present the man I’ve become. Before FFSC, I was not too confident.”

The View from Home

The impact of Anthony’s transformation is best measured by the pride in his children’s voices.

“I’m so happy my Dad got the job at Dr. Pepper! Now when I see the soda in the store, I tell everyone, ‘My Dad helped bring that here.’ He’s like a superhero in a big truck.” ~Jacob, age 7

“Seeing how hard my Dad worked in his classes made me want to study harder, too. He’s much more relaxed now, and I love knowing he’s working so hard so we can go to college one day. He’s my hero.” ~John, age 14

Ultimately, FFSC provided more than just job leads; we provided a compass. By focusing on the “whole man,” the program helped Anthony navigate through the roadblocks of unsuitable shifts and low-confidence to find his true route.

Today, Anthony isn’t just driving a truck for Dr. Pepper—he is driving his family toward a legacy of education, presence, and stability. Because he found his route at FFSC, his children now have a clear map to follow for their own success.
